53 Hoe Street, London, E17 4SA

Private view: 22 April 2011, 19:00-23:00

On Good Friday a new painting and sculpture show opens in the Redroom at the Rose & Crown. The show features a range of artists and is called ‘Republic’.

‘Republic’ is curated by David Sullivan and includes a variety of different artists including ex-Royal College of Arts and local Walthamstow artists. The show opens on Good Friday at 7pm and runs through until Monday 2 May, so it is on all over both Bank Holiday weekends. The Rose & Crown was of course recently voted Pub of the Year in East London by CAMRA, so a visit to the exhibition is a perfect excuse to sample some tasty beverages and digest the art. More details about what’s on at the Rose & Crown can be found here.

Twelve artists’ works have been installed in an empty shop on Holloway Road. They settle into rooms not quite turned over to a particular usage: some have a domestic feel, but they're not quite lived-in. Wipe-clean surfaces and easy-care plants allow a stale look to be maintained all year round, with minimum effort. Shower and rest for the night (help yourself to books), conduct business in the office, make a call, or root for something useful in the yard. The space is in some sort of transition, fitted this way temporarily and then left. But the make-do atmosphere exerts its own charm and the task has been to embellish it. Enjoy your stay.

  Pale Bue and Green
Saturday 25 July – Sunday 16 August 2009
Preview: Friday 24 July 6.30pm – 9.30pm
Permanent Gallery
Brighton, UK

This exhibition presents work by two artists, Sarah Cooney and Jess Flood-Paddock, who create paintings and sculptures which exist at different points of withdrawal from the alchemical potential of their respective mediums. Playing with the different degrees to which conventional markers of merit, such as skill and virtuosity, can be abandoned, these artists focus their attention on the prospect of reinventing relationships of colour and form.

Royal Standard   Pretty Deep
The Royal Standard
Unit 3, Vauxhall Business Centre
131 Vauxhall Road, Liverpool L3 6BN, UK

The exhibition brings together new works by seven artists from the UK and Europe. These artists have been selected by the curators' interpretations of the phrase 'pretty deep'. This resulted in the show looking at notions such as lust, exploration, sarcasm, sincerity and desperation. The works deal with these ideas through formal manipulation and the histoticity of the artists' own media.

winter salon   Winter Salon
10 November - 20 December 2008
Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, Dublin, Ireland

Winter Salon aims to recreate the atmosphere of a salon in a contemporary setting. In keeping with the salon theme, all artists participating in Winter Salon have made new work and the line up includes such familiar names as Robert Armstrong, Liam Belton, Barrie Cooke, Diana Copperwhite, Felim Egan, John Gerrard and Joy Gerrard as well as newcomers, Sarah Cooney, Neal Jones, Mie Olise Kjaergaard and Joep Overtoom. The artworks (all wall-based) will be hung salon-style against a backdrop that evokes the atmosphere of “traditional” salon exhibitions. A hugely versatile array of contemporary art will be presented with some work clearly reflective of the innovative spirit of the younger generation balanced by the gravitas and characteristic styles of their more established counterparts.
